If you’re reading this page, you’re probably concerned about your son or daughter. Perhaps they’re disengaged at school, unemployed and aimless, or simply anxious about the future. You want to see them happy – that’s all parents ever want for their kids. You’ve taken the first step and come to the right place. Karen Your Career Coach provides warm, non judgmental counselling to get your son or daughter back on track to a fulfilling life and career.
How can I help my child choose a career?
Parents are very influential on their teens. Even if your son or daughter is growing distant, you’re still a huge influence. You can provide guidance during the decision-making process and support while they draw up a plan and put it into action. Your child may need student counselling, career counselling, or advice during career transitioning.

Indecision and self-esteem
Often times, indecision at this crucial young age comes from lack of confidence. Teenagers who don’t know what they want, or what they’re good at, exhibit low self-esteem (sometimes they think they’re not good at anything!) This downward spiral of self-criticism can lead to a life of boredom, recklessness and unemployment. Your concern for them is understandable.
Motivating young people
When it comes to career coaching for young people, I emphasise collaboration. I’m not here to side with parents who want to ‘whip’ their kids into shape. Instead, I’m here to empower your son or daughter to take the future into their own hands. I help them gain clarity on what they enjoy and what they want to do. This in itself is a huge inspiration for them to take control. I show them how to make their goals happen by teaching them job skills. Your son or daughter will gain independence and make confident informed choices well into the future.
Already had career guidance at school?
Although your son or daughter had some careers counselling at school, they may need some additional personalised one-on-one guidance. With my post-graduate degree in career development, and memberships of two leading industry organisations – the CEAV and CDAA, I’ve got the time and know-how to do even more for your kids.
Career coaching doesn’t end with an interview
Another thing that makes my services unique is that I’m committed to an ongoing relationship. A lot of other careers counsellors focus only on short-term goals and drop out of the picture as soon as their client lands a job. My philosophy is that careers are ever changing and evolving. The collaborative aspect of my service applies to everything I do. You won’t just be given a resume template – I believe in teaching job seekers how to build a resume from scratch and rewrite this document as their career and experience is constantly evolving. That’s why I’m here to stay in touch well into your working days and beyond.
