The F Word

The F word. Failure. It’s a word that needs to be banished from our language! I am reliably informed, although I’m having to listen carefully to work out the lyrics, that the song by Martin Sexton (You Tube Video attached) is about failing at something and going on to fulfil a long-held dream of being a rock star. Money for nothing and the chicks for free, no less.

Stories abound, if you care to seek them out, of people who have done this very thing. The English chef, Rick Stein is a case in point. Apparently he was a night club owner and everything went pear shaped and he was up in court and pronounced an unfit to operate a business. The ruling did not however prohibit him from running a restaurant, and the rest as they say is history, because he’s now known the world over by ending up on TV as one of the celebrity chefs who have helped to make hospitality a sexy profession, even if you don’t have a French or Italian accent.

So it’s time, again, for one of mum’s little idioms and it goes like this;

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, and try again

Perseverance is incredibly important and sometimes it requires a few flops (that’s a gentler F-word) before you feeling truly fulfilled. The path looks rather like this:

success

So let’s banish the notion of Failure; be brave, have a go and keep trying. You’ll be glad you did.
